Hot off the heels of celebrating 10 Years on stage (The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later, ‘ART’, Standing On Ceremony), Brave New Productions is excited to premiere this Off-Broadway comedy in Montreal written by the Emmy- nominated writer of Six Feet Under, Craig Wright.
In Mistakes Were Made, B-list Off-Broadway producer Felix Artifex gets in way over his fast-talking head when he takes on Mistakes Were Made, the first world-premiere of his long and checkered career. Mistakes is a gargantuan epic of the French Revolution which Felix thinks is going to be his ticket to professional and personal redemption—turns out it’s a croissant-lined highway to hell! But maybe, just maybe, if Felix can pull it all together—things just might, maybe, work out. A compact cosmic gem of philosophy and funny- business.
The play features company founder and creative director Donald Rees in the role of Felix Artifex, whoʼs spent most of the past year and a half off-stage, producing and directing shows for the company. In his own words: “Felix feels so close to home, so close to the experience it’s been making each Brave New Production that it feels right to make this happen right now.”
Accompanying him on stage (in unexpected ways) are Sean Curley (Being Human, X-Men: Days of Future Past) as a puppeteer for Denise, Felix’s Koi fish and confidant, and Stephanie Coco Palermo (Closed Doors, Montreal Hearts) brings the character of Esther, Felix’s assistant, to life through mostly intercom exchanges and shadow work.
As always, and true to it’s name, the company is pursuing a unique form of direction; bringing in a creative team to coach and nurture the project into it’s final shape. Stephanie McKenna (Motherhouse, The Lonely Bar) , Emma McQueen (God is an Iron, Merton at the Movies) and Nir Guzinski (Johnny Quickstep, Redshift) comprise the directing team for Mistakes Were Made – each offering a unique style and layer to the production.
Mistakes Were Made premieres Wednesday, August 20th at 8 PM with a Special Opening Night event for the theatre community and media – and plays through August 30th at Mainline Theatre (3997 Blvd St. Laurent).
