Standing On Ceremony
About the Show
The 10 year anniversary continues. One month after the closing of their critically acclaimed presentation of “ART”, Brave New Productions is proud and honoured to announce their first Summer 2013 production – the Montreal premiere of the ground-breaking Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, a collection of 9 plays by award-winning authors (Mo Gaffney, Moises Kaufman, Paul Raudnick, Neil LaBute & more) exploring the ever-changing landscape of equality and it’s impact on the human experience.
“STANDING ON CEREMONY holds a magnifying glass to the highs and lows, joys and fears, courage and silliness, of people bucking trends and making history.” – The New York Observer
“Laughter and tears. This moving and funny program puts a human face on a hot-button issue–from the satire of Rudnick to the bittersweet of Kaufman to the detailed and humorous portraiture of MacLeod and Gaffney.” – Backstage
Working with a unique team of directors consisting of company alumni and directors from the company’s past, each of the show’s 9 pieces is being produced independently with overall artistic direction by Emma McQueen.
“Standing On Ceremony” will play for one special weekend engagement at Theatre Ste Catherine from June 28-29.
Don’t miss this evening of new short plays by an A-list lineup of writers with 2 Pulitzer Prizes, 4 Obies, 1 Emmy® and 3 Tony® nominations. Be there as they offer their unique takes on the moments before, during and after “I do.” Witty, warm and occasionally wacky, these plays are vows to the blessings of equality, the universal challenges of relationships and the often hilarious power of love.
